Brussels, 28/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - EENA (European Emergency Numbering Association) is attempting to represent all players involved in the good functioning of emergency services - equipment producers, switchboard operators, insurance companies, fire brigades, police, civil protection, consumer organisations, travellers, drivers' clubs, etc, with the aim of promoting the use of "112" as a single emergency number in Europe, providing rapid and effective access to emergency services. 112 is not well known by European citizens although it exists in all EU Member States. In most countries, it coexists with the other emergency numbers, which are not necessarily inter-connected. Apart from the national language or languages of the host country, there is varying availability of other languages: Austria (English), Belgium (no other languages), Denmark (Norwegian, Swedish, English and German), Finland (no other languages), France (English, German and Spanish, but only in border and holiday regions), Germany (no other languages), Greece (English and French), Irish (no other languages), Italy (English), Luxembourg (English), the Netherlands (English), Portugal (Spanish, English and French), Spain (English, France and Germany, but only in tourist regions), Sweden (English) and the UK (no other languages).
