EUR 6 million aid for internally displaced persons in Sri Lanka and Tamil refugees in India

Brussels, 07/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to grant EUR 6 million in humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka's 230,000 internally displaced persons and the 65,000 Tamil refugees exiled in camps in Tamil Nadu (India) since the fighting between Sinhalas and Tamils that started in 1983. The main objectives of the aid provided by the Commission's humanitarian office (ECHO) is to encourage displaced populations to return home - this is now possible following the February...
