Rome, 17/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - Pope Jean-Paul II launched a new appeal to Convention Members to include Christian values in the future European Constitution. In his weekly address to the faithful outside ST Peters Square, the Pope declared that, "this common heritage of East and West would in no sense reduce the secular nature of the political structures, but on the contrary, help the Continent to protect it self against the double risk of ideological secularism and ideological fundamentalism". According to the Pope, being, "united on values and awareness of their past", the European people will be able to fully play a role "in the promotion of justice and peace in the world".
