Brussels, 14/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Friday, the European Commission decided to recover a total of EUR 92.94 million of EU farm money misspent by a number of Member States under CAP. The money is to be recovered because of inadequate control procedures or non-compliance with EU rules on agricultural expenditure. Germany is to reimburse EUR 24.44 million for unsatisfactory control in the arable crops sector; Italy EUR 26.26 million for considerable payment delays (14.49) and major shortcomings in the rural development field (11.77); and the United Kingdom EUR 24.39 million for unsatisfactory control in the animal premia sector (23.63) and shortfalls in public storage (0.76). Corrections for the other Member States are as follows: Portugal: 0.03 mio; Denmark: 0.05 mio; Spain: 11.84 mio; Greece: 9.93 mio; France: 11.92 mio. The Commission's decision also comprises cancellations of earlier corrections in favour of Ireland (EUR -0.83 mio), Luxembourg (-1.39 mio) and the Netherlands (EUR -15.70 mio).
