Ministerial meeting opens in Tokyo to seek to bring farm talks out of deadlock

Brussels, 14/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - Twenty-five members of the WTO are to be in Tokyo from Friday to Sunday to discuss, among other things, the first compromise text on liberalisation of farm trade, presented by Chairman of the WTO Agriculture Committee Stuart Harbinson. The paper, which recommends the abolition of export aid, in time, was very badly received by the European Commission, France and Japan and considered "problematical" in Washington.
