Brussels, 13/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - Javier Solana, EU High representative for CFSP, expressed his concern at incidents recently provoked by gangsters in the Presevo Valley, in the five kilometre buffer zone situated along the south eastern border between Serbia and Kosovo. Solana declared: "I am deeply concerned by the serious attempts to undermine the rule of law and to destabilise the situation in Southern Serbia. The increase in attacks on the multi-ethnic police, the intimidation of local authorities and the increased racketeering by extremist groups have to stop immediately. Any use of violence is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I urge all communities in Southern Serbia to unconditionally support and respect the rule of law and not to let themselves be manipulated by gangsters".
