EUR 24 million for refugees in Tanzania

Brussels, 13/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has approved a humanitarian aid programme in favour of refugees in Tanzania. It will cover the year 2003 with a budget of EUR 24 million. The programme, funded by the ECHO budget (European Community's Humanitarian Aid Office), will help some 520,000 refugees in Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, divided between the fourteen camps to the west of the country, under the protection of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
