13/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - "Give us laws we can understand!", shouted Jens-Peter Bonde, President of the Europe of Democracies and Diversities Group in the European Parliament, when commenting on the initiative presented by the Commission on Tuesday to simplify and reduce Community legislation (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.8). If the Commission "wants to scrap 35,000 pages of legislation by 2005, that's a step in the right direction", but "it will not change anything", says the Danish MEP, for whom, the Commission should rather "propose legislation to be returned to Member States, where the politicians are directly held responsible for their actions"
