Commission adopts Loyola de Palacio's proposal for speeding up phase out of single hull tankers

Brussels, 20/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Friday the European Commission presented its proposal aimed at speeding up the phasing out of single hull tankers (see EUROPE yesterday p 11), which it hopes will be swiftly adopted by the Council and the Parliament to enter into force in March. The Commission proposes an immediate prohibition of the transport of heavy oil grades in all single-hull oil tankers bound for or leaving European ports.
