New practical guide for citizens

Strasbourg, 16/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - European Ombudsman Jacob Soederman, has just published a guide for citizens entitled "What can the European Ombudsman do for you?". This 38-page booklet explains the work of the Ombudsman and give examples of cases dealt with. It is available in the European Union's official languages. The guide stresses the results secured by the first European Union Ombudsman. Since his election in 1995, Soederman has dealt with over 11,000 complaints by citizens, companies, organisations and public authorities. For the first time, in 2002 the number of complaints received exceeded 2,000 (the guide is available on the internet site of the European Ombudsman at the address: hhtp: //http://www.euro-ombudsman.eu.int/en/default.htm ).
