US pressure in favour of Turkey's membership to the EU

Copenhagen, 12/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - President Bush called upon Anders Fogh Rasmussen to encourage Europeans to set a date for beginning membership talks with Turkey. George Bush stressed that "without wishing to interfere in European affairs", he felt it would give Turkey a "powerful and positive" signal in everyone's interest, Mr Rasmussen told the press.
