25/11/2002 (Agence Europe) -Four French nationals of the EPP-ED Group, Marie-Hélène Descamps, Marie-Thérèse Hermange, Dominique Vlasto and Françoise de Veyrinas, submitted a written declaration on the protection of minors against pornographic pictures and gratuitous violence on television. Open to signature by other MEPs since 18 February, the declaration notes that Article 22 of the Television without Borders Directive calls on Member States to take appropriate measures so that televised programmes provide a framework for the diffusion of pictures showing gratuitous violence and pornography, and calls on the Commission to present a complete table of measures implemented to apply this article and to propose, in the context of review of the directive, more binding provisions in the matter. The declaration also invites the Commission to complete its study on systems for monitoring televised broadcasts.
