Brussels, 25/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - Monday's Energy Council resulted in a political agreement on the proposal of a decision to establish a series of guidelines on the trans-European networks in the energy sector. The proposal aims to promote the interconnection, interoperability and development of the trans-European networks in this sector. It amends the guidelines concerning them on ten common interest projects by defining twelve priority projects and increasing the maximum rate of cofinancing for priority projects from 10 to 20%. The Fifteen, which take on board the suggestion by the Danish Presidency to change some information concerning the projects of common interest from Annex III (comitology procedure) to Annex II (codecision procedure), took into account the concerns expressed by the European Parliament which feared that it would not be sufficiently consulted on such projects. Thus, only technical information will be part of Annex III and will remain under comitology, whereas the other information will be the subject of codecision procedure, with full involvement of the European Parliament.
