Commissioner de Palacio calls on Member states to bring forward implementation of Erika packages and calls for modernisation of international maritime law

Strasbourg, 20/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - Following the sinking of the ship "Prestige" off the coast of Galicia in Spain, Commissioner Loyola de Palacio has called on Member states to bring forward the implementation of the measures provided for by the "Erika I" and "Erika II" packages, that should take effect in June 2003 and February 2004, respectively.
