Brussels, 21/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission decided to authorise aid for a series of employment schemes put in place by the authorities in Asturias (Spain) for 2001 and 2002 in the transport sector. The Spanish authorities developed a number of transport undertakings which take on jobseekers, particularly from amongst the most disadvantaged categories of unemployed. They are targeted on promoting: paid jobs; self-employed activities; employment in the non-profit sector. A few thousand euros are granted for each job created. The Commission considers that they are compatible with the internal market on the basis of the Community guidelines on aid to employment, the Community guidelines on national regional aid and the Community legislation on State aid to small and medium-sized enterprises.
