21/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Vice-President of the European Convention, Giuliano Amato said that the EPP had adopted what is "on the whole a good document", and noted several points in common with the priorities of the Party of European Socialists for the future of Europe (see EUROPE of 4 October, p.6): the EPP also speaks of "a constitution of a single text, of the Union as a single entity, of the incorporation of the Charter, of the need for a special status for neighbouring countries and of a real legislative Council". However, according to him, referring to Europe's religious heritage, the EPP is re-opening a difficult debate (that complicated the adoption of Charter of Fundamental Rights: Ed.).
