Reactions to Commission report - Criticisms of Turkish authorities - United States disappointed

Brussels, 10/10/2002 (Agence Europe) - Turkey is protesting at the fact that the Commission did not propose a date to begin negotiations over its membership of the EU but officially wants to believe that the Fifteen could give in to its request at the Copenhagen Summit. In its report on enlargement, published on Wednesday, the Commission considers that Turkey does not yet fulfil the required political criteria to begin negotiations.
