30/09/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 27 September, the Danish Presidency made the following declaration on behalf of the EU: "The EU continues to follow events in Mexico closely. It welcomes and strongly supports President Fox's efforts to strengthen democracy and ensure greater public accountability as well as the Mexican administration's determined efforts to root out corruption in Mexico, both in public and private sectors, and to put and end to impunity. The EU remains committed to supporting the consolidation of a democratic, pluralistic and transparent Mexico. The Central and Eastern European countries associated with the EU, the associated countries Cyprus, Malta and Turkey, and the EFTA countries, members of the EEA align themselves with this declaration."
