Council postpones its decision on sanctions till end of month and announces far-reaching international initiative on difficulties of world steel industry

Brussels, 22/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The EU15 Foreign Ministers decided on Monday to postpone till the end of September their decision on imposing sanctions against the United States as a response to the US taxes on steel imports. The Fifteen thus approved, without debate, the proposal presented on Friday last by the European Commission to their Permanent Representatives (EUROPE of 20 July, p.6).
