17/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - Christa Randzio-Plath (SPD), Chair of the EP Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, called for greater international coordination in order to restore market confidence after the Enron, WorldCom and Xerox affairs. In a press release published the day after the speech by the president of the US Federal Reserve, Allan Greenspan, before Congress, she stresses that the crisis goes deeper and is more lasting that originally thought. She said the "non-binding measures taken by the US government do not go far enough to offset the general distrust towards the markets and the financial information provided by companies". She invited the American Congress to closely cooperate with the European Parliament to restore the right balance between the interests of industry and investor protection.
