According to Commission report, more than 20% of water undergound and 30-40% of EU lakes and rivers contain too high levels of nitrates

Brussels, 17/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The 2000 report on the implemntation of the 1991 directive on the fight against nitrate watter pollution adopted on Wednesday by the European Commission, shows that more thatn 20% of water undergound in the EU contains too high levels of nitrates and there is a upward trend in regions where animal brreding and high fertiliser use occur.
