Brussels, 12/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - An ad-hoc European Parliament delegation will visit Iran on 16-21 July on the invitation of the Iranian Parliament. Led by the President of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Elmar Brok (CDU Germany), the delegation will be also made up of the British Liberal Democrat, Emma Nicholson, Christian Democrat and Michael Gahler (Germany) and rapporteur for EU-Iranian relations, British Labour Party MEP, Glyn Ford and Demetrio Volcic (Democratici did Sinistra). In Tehran the delegation is expected to meet the President of the Parliament, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the President of the Republic, Mohammad Khatami. As well as the opening of negotiations for a trade and co-operation agreement between the EU and Iran, MEPs are also expected to discuss the development of a real political dialogue with the country. The delegation will also go to Shiraz to visit a refugee camp and meet local leaders.
