Pascal Lamy visits Australia and New Zealand

Brussels, 12/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - On 15 July, Pascal Lamy will begin an official visit to Australia and New Zealand with the objective of strengthening trade relations with these two countries in the perspective of the Doha Agenda for development. On Monday the European Commissioner will meet the Australian Prime Minister, Mr Howard and the Trade Minister, Vaile. He will also be meeting members of civil society and the business community to discuss the contribution of trade in development, before the Johannesburg Summit on Sustainable Development beings in September. Mr Lamy will arrive in New Zealand on 20 July where he will meet Jim Sutton and Phil Goff, the Minister for Trade and Minister for Foreign Affairs respectively. A meeting with New Zealand NGOs is also planned. On 17-19 July, Mr Lamy will be participating in the third ACP Summit of Heads of State and Government in Fiji as a special guest.
