Commission brings Belgium before Court of Justice for its application of a tax on stock market operations

Brussels, 12/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday the European Commission decided to bring Belgium before the Court of Justice for its application of a tax on stock market operations and deliveries of bearer securities.

Belgium applies a tax on stock exchange operations carried out in Belgium involving subscriptions for shares, e.g. investment company shares and units in Belgian and other Member States' investment trusts, and the issue of loans. A tax on deliveries of bearer securities is...
