25/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - French Socialist Anne Ferreira and Belgian Green Paul Lannoye organised a press conference last week with the "Collectif Europe et Medicament", which brings together consumer and patients associations, mutual insurance bodies and professional health associations, mainly French. This Collectif disputes several aspects of the draft review of European pharmaceutical legislation: - the lengthening of the duration of the protection of clinical data (as it would delay the placing on the market of generic medicines); - the reduction of the time it takes to examine requests for authorisation to place products on the market (APPM - as it would weaken the quality of the expertise); - the abandonment of the five-yearly renewal of APPMs; - the opaque nature of the pharmaceutical-vigilance system.
