Brussels, 20/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission will examine ten golden share cases in light of the recent Court of Justice decision indicated Jonathan Todd, spokesman for commissioner Bolkestein, on Thursday. The Court's ruled on 4 June that the golden shares allowing France and Portugal to retain control of private companies, were illegal. The decision also targeted the actions of the French government keeping Elf Aquitaine (now Total/Fina Elf), from passing into foreign hands. On the other hand, the Court ruled in favour of Belgium's golden share, considering that it had been given sufficient notice. The commission is expected to examine the case of Volkswagen and legislation adopted by Italy and Spain to counter the participation of EDF in the energy sector
