Brussels, 20/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has granted regulatory clearance to the proposed acquisition of DSM Petrochemicals by Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC). SABIC is specialised in the production and sale of hydrocarbons, chemical products, polymers, fertilisers and metal products. DSM Petrochemicals is the commercial wing of DSM which is active in the polythene and polypropylene production and sales sectors, as well as hydrocarbons and other chemical products. The Commission has concluded that the operation would increase SABIC market share in certain chemical and hydrocarbon products in the EEA but that this share would be less than 25%. There are also enough major players in this market to alleviate competition concerns.
