Brussels, 20/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has granted regulatory clearance to the proposed acquisition of Brico Belgium, a retailer specialised in Do-It-Yourself (DIY) products, by Dutch non-food retailer group Vendex KBB. Vendex is a non-food retail group operating in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Luxemburg, Germany, and France with general department stores under the name Vroom & Dreesmann, HEMA, and Bijenkorf. In the Netherlands it operates DIY outlets under the Praxis, Formido and Kijkshop trade names. In Belgium, Vendex operates a number of HEMA outlets, where a very limited range of DIY products are sold. The deal's main impact will be in Belgium where Brico operates the largest Belgian DIY speciality store. The Commission believes that the operation will have no significant effect on the market.
