24/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - The representative of the European employers' organisation, UNICE, has called on the Council to do its utmost to create a Community patent that is economically viable. In a press statement, UNICE explained that it was "unacceptable for industry" that patent requirements were translated in all Community languages, as proposed by the Spanish Presidency at the last Internal Market Council (see EUROPE 22 May page 9). UNICE explained that if certain Member States continued to ask for part or all of the patent to be translated in all Community languages, European inventors would never have a competitive instrument vis-à-vis their US and Japanese competitors.
