Strasbourg, 16/05/2002 (Agence Europe) - By adopting on first reading (co-decision), in Strasbbourg on Wednesday, two reports by Marit Paulsen (Swedish, ELDR) on combating salmonella and other types of zoonosis, the EP amended the Commission's August 2001 proposal to give greater weight to combating resistance to antibiotics in different types of bacteriological zoonosis. It thus intends pointing out that the use of an antibiotic, when not essential, should be avoided.
