Switzerland's BARRY CALLEBAUT (CHF 2.5 bn turnover in 2001 with 5,000 staff in 24 factories spread over 16 countries), world leader in the manufacture of industrial chocolate, has taken over its German rival STOLLWERCK (CHF 730 annual turnover, with 2,500 employees) for CHF 256 million. Initially the Swiss firm will buy the shares held by IMHOFF INDUSTRIE HOLDING and the Imboff Foundation, owner of the manufacturer, or some 96% of the capital. Then, a bid will be made to minority shareholders.
