30/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to a project that is being discussed between Commission services, Commissioner Bolkestein could soon be presenting a proposal for harmonising duties on alcohol from a level of EUR 13.92 per hectolitre from 1 January 2003 (for wine that contains 12% alcohol) and EUR 15.01 from January 2007, indicated the EFE press agency. Until now wine has been exempted form duties in the framework of the 1992 directive, whereas beer has duties imposed on it.
