Jean-Luc Dehaene calls on youth to participate actively in European construction

Brussels, 30/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - During the European Youth Forum Members Council on 26-27 April in Brussels, the Vice President of the European Convention, Jean-Luc Dehaene listened to the concerns of youth about the Convention delegate selection process and the need to involve youngsters in European construction more actively. Mr Dehaene encouraged youth organisations to take part in the next Youth convention on 11-12 July. In a Forum communiqué, he stressed the importance of permanently involving young people in European construction and called on the European Youth Forum to act as the point of contact between the Convention and young Europeans. Forum President, Henrik Söderman welcomed this invitation and indicated that his organisation would do its best to work towards becoming the interface between the Convention and youth and their representatives at a European level. The Forum's contribution to the Convention, "Bringing Europe closer to its young citizens", has also been adopted.
