Brussels, 19/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Spanish Presidency issued a statement in Luanda on 4 April 2002: "The EU expresses its satisfaction with the formal signature by the Government of Angola and UNITA of a memorandum of understanding in complement to the Lusaka Protocol for a ceasefire and other pending military issues. The EU congratulates all parties involved in the process and the people of Angola for this agreement, and reiterates its solidarity commitment to assist the efforts made to consolidate, in a culture of dialogue and tolerance, the social and economic development of the country. The Central and Eastern European countries associated with the EU, the associated countries Cyprus, Malta and Turkey, and the EFTA countries, members of the EEA align themselves with this declaration."
