Brussels, 19/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - European Environment Commissioner Margot Wallstrom will be in Washington from 22 to 25 April, where she is to participate, on 23 April, in the first meeting of EU/US High-Level Representatives on Climate Change. "It is important that we work together with the US, even if we disagree on some specific issues, such as climate change. There is scope for co-operation on many issues and we can make a decisive impact to ensure a successful outcome of the Johannesburg Summit if we join forces", she said.
Ms. Wallstrom, who will in particular be meeting EPA Administrator, Mr. Whitman and Under Secretaries of State Messrs. Dobriansky and Larson, members of Congress and representatives of civil society, also intends pleading in favour of EU/United States co-operation in health matters, especially in the fight against children's exposure to particular environmental threats.
