Mechtild Rothe expresses concern for Clerides-Denktash talks, but is convinced of Turkish Cypriots' desire to join Europe

Brussels, 18/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - German Social Democrat Mechtild Rothe, Chair of the European Parliament Delegation at the Joint EU/Cyprus Parliamentary Committee, told several journalists that she was less optimistic than she was in January regarding the chances of success of talks between Cypriot President Clerides and the Tukish-Cypriot leader, Denktash, because the latter seems to be sticking to his position, although the aim of talks is to reach an agreement on the island's future...
