17/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to German employers, says Ludolf von Wartenberg, head of the BDI (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie), in a press release, the European Commission's proposals in view of simplifying the control of mergers "ae in the right direction, but do not go far enough". According to him, companies which must notify their mergers at the same time in several Member States will suffer a heavy financial burden, as well as in terms of work: the Commission should therefore remain competent when it is a question of mergers concerning two Member States or more (instead of at least three, as the Green Paper proposes). In addition, the turnover threshold to attain for the Commission to have its word should be less that the 5 billion euro proposed, which is "much too high", says Mr. von Wartenberg.
