Brussels, 17/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Union welcomes the launching of an Oxfam campaign aimed at "making trade fair" as a "useful contribution to the debate on eliminating poverty". Nonetheless, some "partial" analyses, "omissions" and "gross errors" (especially in statistical data or in determining areas) lead the non-governmental organisation to designate the EU as the most protectionist of the Quad members (the United States, Canada and Japan being the others). It sets its views out in the otherwise "interesting" report that it publishes on this occasion under the title "Double standards: trade, globalisation and the fight against poverty". EUROPE will come back to this.
