04/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - European Forza Italia member Stefano Zappalà commented on the evolution of the crisis in the Middle East. As his colleague Santini had done (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.6), he criticised the "political irresponsibility of a certain international left" which, he says, "makes one side with a party", while the international community must "act through diplomatic channels", and not take position. In his view, the UN, NATO and EU "can no longer remain without doing anything", and the European Union must encourage its partners, "whether individual or not, the UN and NATO, so that they intervene in a determined way to find a just and lasting peace".
