Brussels, 04/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament's political groups has decided to propose to the plenary to hold a debate and adopt a resolution on the situation in the Middle East at next week's plenary session in Strasbourg. The debate could be held on Tuesday afternoon to enable Parliament to be able to express its position before the meeting organised in Madrid on Wednesday by the Spanish Presidency between Javier Solana and Colin Powell. EUROPE understands that the EPP-ED group opposes the adoption of a resolution. The President of the delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council, Luisa Morgantini, has given a very moving account of the situation in Ramallah from where she has just returned. No final decision has yet been taken on sending a European Parliament delegation to the Middle East. EUROPE will return to this.
