Brussels, 02/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - In the run up to the official hearing of the Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) by the European Convention on the Future of Europe in June, the European Union Green/ALE Group, together with the NGOs and EU and candidate country trade unions, are organising a meeting on 4 April. The debate will focus on their aspirations for the future of Europe and the Convention, the role they hope to play in the Forum on the Convention and the fields that they see as necessary in strengthening the role of the EU. Monica Frassoni, co-president of the Green/ALE Group, will chair proceedings that will be divided into two themes: 1) The Convention on the Future of Europe giving a chance for greater democratic participation; 2) A new Europe modelled by the Convention: objectives and functions. Johannes Voggenhuber, member of the Convention, Neil MacCormick, Convention Deputy, Nelly Maes, Vice President of the Green/ALE Group will be participating.
