Brussels, 02/04/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has postponed the adoption of its communication on a council Decision authorising negotiations for economic partnership agreements with ACP regions and countries. Adoption had been expected for 3 April (see EUROPE 25-26 March page 16) on the subject of ACP/EU Joint Assembly requests on negotiations, put together during the plenary in South Africa. These requests were reflected in a communication from Commissioner for Trade, Pascal Lamy, in agreement with the Commissioner for Development, Poul Nielson.
At the end of the first post-Easter meetings, the Commission will be holding a seminar in preparation of its communication to the Convention on the future of Europe. This document proposes a "political project" for Europe and should be finalised by the Commission by the end of the month (see EUROPE 22 March page 5).
