Publication of administrative code of good conduct

Brussels, 20/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - A press release has indicated that on 18 March, the European Ombudsman, Jacob Söderman, published the European Administrative Code of Good Conduct, "in the form of a reader-friendly pamphlet", which invites those in charge of Community institutions and organisations to adopt the code aimed at promoting the fundamental right to good administration, as laid down in Article 41 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights proclaimed at Nice. Mr Söderman announced that he will apply the code within the framework of his enquiries on cases of possible bad administration in Community organisations. He guaranteed that civil servants would follow the code and thus prevent cases of bad administration. The pamphlet is available in 11 Community languages at: http: //http://www.euro.opmbudsman.eu.int/code/en/default/htm ).
