Brussels, 11/03/2002 (Agence Europe) - "Six months after the terrorist attacks of 11 September, the European Union reiterates its full solidarity with the United States", declared the Fifteen on Monday in a declaration commemorating the events adopted by the General Affairs Council. The declaration recalls that the Union felt directly concerned by "attack against all of us, against open, democratic, tolerant and multicultural societies". "Time will not erase the memory of this savage immeasurable crime", the Fifteen continue. The EU also reaffirms its determination to combat terrorism. "The global fight against terrorism represents, more than ever, a priority for the EU", states the declaration, which also stresses, as at the time of the attacks, that the fight against terrorism "is not targeted against any people or religion". On the contrary, it aims to "reinforce international security and the rule of law, as well as at the security of countries affected by the scourge of terrorism", say the Fifteen.
