25/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - The Transnational Radical Party organised, on 23 February, a demonstration before the Russian Embassies of Brussels, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Milan and Turin to "commemorate the 58th anniversary of the deportation of the Chechen people ordered by Stalin in 1944". Demonstrators, who included Chechens, mainly called for "withdrawal of the humanitarian aid portfolio from European Commissioner Poul Nielson, who, since 1999, has still not been to Chechnya despite the hundreds of thousands of refugees living in inhumane conditions". They also demand the "immediate recognition of the Republic of Chechnya" by the EU.
