Parliament calls for court to be set up to decide on status of prisoners

Strasbourg, 08/02/2002 (Agence Europe) - During its emergency debates on Thursday, the EP passed a resolution tabled by the EPP-ED, Socialist, Liberal, Greens and GUE groups on the conditions under which prisoners are being detained in Guantanamo Bay, calling for them to be treated in a manner that respected international humanitarian law for prisoners - this applied both to the prisoners in the US base in Cuba and also to those held in US bases in Afghanistan and neighbouring areas.
