MEP Alexandros Alavanos (United Left, Greece) called on Nicole Fontaine to propose that Yasser Arafat and Shimon Peres should be invited to the European Council of Laeken. Such an invitation to the Summit, Mr Alavanos says in his letter to Ms Fontaine, would strengthen the "forces acting in favour of peace and dialogue".
