Commission aims to harmonise legislative and regulatory Member State provisions on racist and xenophobic acts

Brussels, 28/11/2001 (Agence Europe) - With Wednesday's a proposal for a Framework Decision on the "fight against racism and xenophobia", the commission sent a strong deterrent message to those contemplating committing this kind of offence". The proposal has two aims: to ensure that racism and xenophobia are punishable in all Member States by effective, proportionate and dissuasive criminal penalties, which can give rise to extradition or surrender and that judicial co-operation is improved...
