ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) insurance

The UK's PRUDENTIAL has announced the sale of its British car, house and civil liability insurance activities to WINTERTHUR, the insurance subsidiary of CREDIT SUISSE bank for £353 million in cash. In addition to its new portfolio (1.9 million insurance policies), WINTERTHUR will have access to PRUDENTIAL's life insurance clientele and the UK insurer will gain exclusive access to WINTERTHUR's UK customers. PRUDENTIAL has announced the loss of 2,100 jobs by the end of 2003.
