Brussels / Geneva, 23/10/2001 (Agence Europe) - The World Trade Organisation (WTO) will, as planned, go to Doha, from 9 to 13 November, except "if a cataclysm should occur", declared Mike Moore, Director General of the Institution, at the end of an impromptu visit to Qatar on Sunday and Monday. "We are moving forward.. I'm confident in the planning and preparations undertaken between now and Doha", he said, adding: "Should anything cataclysmic occur, we would reconsider things". For now, the WTO and its 142 member countries intend "coming to Doha in a little over two weeks" for the large ministerial rendez-vous that could provide the trigger for an new round of negotiations. The WTO General Council, decision-making body that brings together the permanent representatives of the 142 in Geneva, is to meet on 31 October to continue with preparations. This session, although regular, was initially scheduled for this Tuesday.
